Identity & packaging design for independent whisky company Livingstone, owned by Alexis Livingstone Burgess of Burgess Studio.
Livingstone, at it’s heart, is a platform to create interesting whisky projects. The first being 'The Macbeth Collection' - a scotch whisky collection of all forty-two characters of Macbeth, illustrated by Sir Quentin Blake. You can read more about that here.
The custom drawn word marque is paired with Livingstone’s mascot - a woodpecker offering a dram of whisky. Inspired by an old postcard of a woodpecker in a dinner jacket holding a tray of drinks, it was the perfect analogy for an independent bottler. A small, nimble creature that could dart into a warehouse, peck at a cask, and bring out a dram for you. The below video shows the (agonising) evolution of symbol which needed to work across a range of sizes and applications including being legible to emboss as an emboss on the shoulders.
Other applications shown below range from the packaging (including the proprietary bottle) through other physical & digital applications.
