'Ghost' distillery Ladyburn, which was only operational from 1966 until 1975, has launched its fourth collection in partnership with Korean artist Ha Chong-Hyun. A limited release of 200 bottles from cask 3219 and a further 85 bottles from cask 3216 are each adorned with one of eleven paintings, selected from Ha’s seminal Conjunction Series. Born in Korea in 1935 and still practising today, Ha Chong-Hyun created avant-garde works that challenged the socio-economic standards and materials of the time. Known for often using coarsely woven burlap for his canvases, Ha pioneered a technique known as 'bae-ap-bub’, which translates to ‘back pressure method’, in which he pushes paint through the canvas from the back creating incredible depth and layers in his work. The Conjunction Series is an ongoing body of work that began in 1974, and the eleven artworks in the series are early paintings, created in the same period these two ex-bourbon casks of Ladyburn were first laid down.
