Black Bowmore DB5 1964

Bowmore x Aston Martin

The inaugural project in the partnership between Bowmore and Aston Martin, bringing together the icons of each brand; Black Bowmore 1964, and the Aston Martin DB5.

In 1964 Bowmore changed the way their distillery was powered, moving from coal fire to steam; it was spirit produced after this major development that became Black Bowmore.

A similar power change was happening at Aston Martin; developing on from the DB4, a new engine was created – all aluminium with a bigger piston diameter, making the car lighter, and faster. It was this engine that went into the DB5.

The DB5 decanter brings these two elements together; half Black Bowmore, half genuine Aston Martin DB5 piston head.

The decanter is presented in a luggage case finished in a deep blue calfskin with a wave emboss to reflect Bowmore’s coastal home; all the hardware was custom designed to reflect details of the DB5, including the goat suede transit pad that has the same bolster pattern as the seat of a DB5. The case is further protected by a slipcase of waxed cotton from Halley Stevensons of Dundee – suppliers of waxed cotton to the shipping community since 1864. A book documenting the project is included in the case.
