A Barbican Ornithology

After his recent appointment as Managing Director of the Barbican, Sir Nicholas Kenyon approached Quentin Blake with a request to do something creative with the enormous pillar in the middle of his office. Quentin asked us to help. He had produced a series of drawings of birds engaged in Barbican activities, but did not know how to get them on to the pillar, or what colour they should be etc. The pillar is right in
the middle of the room, and gets bashed by chairs and kicked all day long, so real paint was not an option. After several visualisations and tests, we finally found a printable plastic wallpaper that is used in hospitals, that is wipeable and also has a texture very similar to cartridge paper. The pillar looks like a huge drawing, and is virtually indestructible.
